The CINZ Community Fund

Conventions and Incentives New Zealand (CINZ) believes strongly that the New Zealand conventions sector has a responsibility to give back to its community.

The CINZ Community Fund derives its income from special fundraising events, promotions and conference participant, exhibitor and sponsor levies.

These funds are distributed to worthy causes in communities across the length and breadth of New Zealand for a wide range of charitable purposes.

All New Zealand conference and hospitality organisations are encouraged to contribute the proceeds of their fundraising activities into the CINZ Community Fund to enable it to make a major and informed impact on our country’s people and their communities.

Who Administers the Fund?
The CINZ Community Fund is administered by the Auckland Communities Foundation, an independent incorporated trust registered with the Charities Commission. In addition to managing the investment of the Fund, the Foundation provides grant making guidance to CINZ. To achieve this Auckland Communities Foundation draws upon the knowledge held in the national community foundation movement and other informed sources. The Foundation’s national charitable status means that it can make grants anywhere in New Zealand to organisations and individuals conducting projects and programmes with a charitable purpose. Auckland Communities Foundation also assists with providing speakers on relevant social topics from its network for conference events.

What do we support?
The CINZ Community Fund takes a proactive approach to supporting important charitable activities in local communities where specific New Zealand conventions and meetings are taking place. In this way, CINZ can support these communities socially as well as through economic opportunities.

Case study
As part of our national conference this year, we are running a golf fundraising event and auction which will provide support for CAFÉ for Youth Health (Mo Te Hauora Taiohi) in Taupo.

CAFÉ for Youth Health is an incorporated society that runs health clinics and health education for young people to enable them to lead vibrant and healthy lives.

Although CAFÉ for Youth Health receives funding from the District Health Board, there is a shortfall for equipment, facilities and administration meaning it has an ongoing list of both everyday and bigger things that could significantly enhance its work. The CINZ Community Fund will provide new examination lights for the main clinic to replace old ones that have stopped working and are no longer able to be repaired, as well other essential equipment that will help support healthier lives for Taupo youth.
